No, that isn't my smile! I wish it was, but it isn't.
When I first got here, back in November, I went to the supermarket to get the things I needed, one of which was toothpaste. I like Aquafresh best so that's what I bought. I didn't bother to study the label on the box. It looked the same as the one I am used to back in the U.K.
A week later I had a very sore tongue! (no comments please!!). I couldn't understand it. My tongue was sore and red and I couldn't bear anything to touch it. Cleaning my teeth made my tongue scream and water poured into my mouth from the salivary glands! All the little papillae were standing up to attention. I began to think it was an allergy and looked around for what I'd been eating that was different here than back in Blighty. I've never had a sore tongue in my life and believe me, it wasn't pleasant! I thought maybe I'd been drinking my tea and coffee too hot - I do that a lot, but when I went on to water only, that helped but didn't cure it. I rinsed with mouthwash. That was like swallowing fire...
Finally I went back to an old wives recipe, salt water. That did tamper it down a bit. I daren't eat pickles or chilli or anything fiery.
I began to wonder if I should go to the Chinese doctor and see if he could recommend something to take the fire out of my blood.
At last L suggested it might be the toothpaste. True enough, it was worse just after brushing. I looked at the box and saw that it contained bleach! Well naturally that set the alarm bells going. L thought that might be the reason for the soreness so I changed the toothpaste to an ordinary one without the dreaded 'whitening' in it and now all is fine
EXCEPT
I now have a sensitive tooth so I had to go and buy some Sensodyne.
Does this post sound like a toothpaste commercial?
Has anyone else had this problem?

:) Wow..you must have had an alergic reaction to the "whitening"..
I use Colgate and it say "Whitener" on the box but it has never bothered me...how strange that should happen to you!
You really should write to the manufacturer and tell them. OR call ..there should be a number on the box.
I'm glad you are alright.
I cannot get to my "comments" for some odd reason...
Blogger seems to have done something to it and all I come up with is a full size blank page!
I can comment on other peoples blogs..just cannot see my own.
I hope your new year is going fantastic!! :)
Hugs,
Mona
For some reason I don't approve of 'whitening' toothpaste ... don't know why because I've never tried it. It's just that the very word makes me think of bleach plus I don't like messing about with nature. I hope your tongue feels more comfortable now.
I started using natural toothpaste not long ago hoping something would help my "geographic tongue." (That's where you get spots that migrate around on the tongue, nothing serious but it is painful.)
It is much better without using regular toothpaste, so I can commiserate. Glad you found the cause.
Nasty shock Stella. It's a bit like our 'common' language: English. Not quite the same in some instances eh? Jam jello jelly et al.
Must be the same with some toothpaste.
Hope all is well now; take care.

I use Sensedyne, but I've heard that flouride is really bad for the pineal gland. I can only guess that the bleach would be bad for our tongue. I guess we'll just have to go back to TOM's from Whole Foods.
I bought a GLO before Christmas. It was supposed to whiten the way the dentist does - with ultra-violet light. You put the bleach on your teeth and then put the mouthpiece in your mouth for eight minutes. (Repeat four times.) Well, it works - but it also blistered my lips. It went back and I guess I just will have to live with teeth that do not look like your photo!
I didn't realize that toothpaste can contain bleach......that is just plain icky.....

About toothpaste: My wife has sensitive teeth and the only toothpaste she can't use is Sensodyne! It makes her mouth very sore.
